I would love to see if anyone has any numbers or done a study to see whether the amount of energy saved from turning off the lights during Earth Hour is actually offset by people using energy in other ways.

Another thing that bothers me is the claim by the “organizers” and the key supporters that the Earth Hour really symbolizes something bigger and that it provides a platform for more discussion. That’s just crap. The stupidity of the audience that participates in Earth Hour is reflected by the fact they take “turn your lights off” to literally mean “turn your lights off” when it really means stop consuming energy. But everyone was on twitter and facebook talking about earth hour during earth hour! If your audience can’t jump from light to electricity then……
