Just noticed that my workaround doesn’t handle URL’s starting with “https://”. It gets replaced with “http://”. Not much of a problem, just sayin’.

Looks like I’m not the only one with the problem. If I include the “http://” part in the URL, I get 404: Page Not Found, the tab title reads Nothing found for Public IE8 Redirect etc etc. The workaround seems to be leaving the “http://” bit out. Pretty sure it wasn’t like that before. Awesome tool otherwise – thanks Jonathan.

This is a great boon. However it’s no longer working for sites with a full url

eg http://www.elipva.com works
but http://espn.go.com doesn’t

Is this a permanent change?

Note: Due to the way that IE8 accelerators work, URLs need to be sent to my server in order for the redirection and thumbnail preview to take place. I can assure you that I do not log any personal information nor do I look at the URLs passing through my server. However, if you are uncomfortable with this, please do not install this add-on.

I think you should remove this Accelerator for ethical reasons.
It is not obvious at first that URLs are being sent to your server, and there is no informed consent from those who install it. As you know, there is a technical reason why this must occur, however, you have not made enough of an effort to inform your user base of this.

Let me check with my hosting provider (HostGator). I checked the back end, and all the PHP code is still there in the same state since months ago.

I hope HostGator didn’t start blocking imgpreview.php and redirect.php because it was consuming too much traffic…

In the meantime, I have made my source code available above, so if you guys want to self-host for the time being, please feel free to do so.
